"Socioacoustic" is a term I use to describe music that was created by sonifying unsuspecting social-media users. For this album I tracked tweets from Twitter that used a particular hashtag, then mapped specific parameters of each tweet to correspond with pitch, duration, and loudness. Each track is named for the hashtag that I followed, which I sound designed a soundscape for the hashtag. The tweets were streamed in real-time and I recorded the result.

Part of this project was to document the public response to specific events that occurred during the end of 2014. The results are sonified, which offer a unique way of articulating ideas and emotions where words fall short. Curiously, retweets tend to create a unique tonal center for each soundscape. "Socioacoustic" was inspired by Jon Bellona's fascinating work, "#Carbonfeed."
